The case for collective action

Our reach grows when our efforts connect.

Each brotherhood brings people who teach, build businesses, care for families, lead institutions, and serve neighborhoods. A shared council can connect that experience across organizational lines, reduce duplicated effort, and bring sustained attention to the priorities our communities identify.

Education, employment, health, justice, and economic stability are connected. Coordinating our work makes it possible to support a student beyond graduation, connect a business owner with both expertise and talent, and pair community concerns with people prepared to act.

ASKIO calls for cooperation grounded in respect for each organization’s identity, equal participation, and accountability to the people we serve. Success should be measured by lasting community benefit.

A shared agenda

Ten priorities.
Purposeful, connected action.

These proposed areas of work turn the council’s vision into practical opportunities for collaboration.

01 / EDUCATION

Open doors through learning.

A shared council can connect tutors, educators, alumni, and families across chapters. Coordinated scholarships, literacy programs, college preparation, and support for HBCUs can help students build a stronger path from classroom to opportunity.

A first step: Start with a joint tutoring and scholarship calendar.

02 / BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Build enterprises that endure.

Pool expertise in operations, accounting, procurement, marketing, and organizational governance to strengthen Black-owned businesses and community organizations. Shared workshops and peer advisory circles can help entrepreneurs turn ideas into well-managed enterprises.

A first step: Organize a business operations clinic and a local supplier directory.

03 / CAREERS AND JOBS

Connect talent with opportunity.

Bring employers, skilled trades professionals, entrepreneurs, and job seekers into the same network. Resume reviews, apprenticeship connections, interview preparation, and career sponsorship can create pathways into meaningful work and advancement.

A first step: Host a cross-fraternity career day with hiring and training partners.

04 / HEALTH INITIATIVES

Make well-being a shared priority.

Coordinate with qualified health organizations to expand health education, screening access, mental health conversations, and connections to care. Trusted relationships can help men and families seek support and sustain healthier habits.

A first step: Plan a community wellness event with local care providers.

05 / LEADERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP

Show up for the next generation.

Pair emerging leaders with consistent mentors who model accountability, service, and integrity. A common mentorship framework can strengthen continuity as young people move through school, work, and community life.

A first step: Build a mentor cohort with clear commitments and regular check-ins.

06 / RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT AND NETWORKING

Turn introductions into lasting trust.

Create spaces where brothers across organizations listen, resolve disagreements constructively, share resources, and collaborate with families and community partners. Strong relationships make coordinated service more dependable.

A first step: Convene a recurring roundtable with shared follow-up responsibilities.

07 / LEGAL REFORM

Advance fairness through informed action.

Create forums with legal professionals and community advocates to examine barriers to equal justice, access to representation, reentry, and fair treatment. A shared council can coordinate public education and constructive dialogue about proposed reforms.

A first step: Hold a community listening session and a legal information forum.

08 / WEALTH MANAGEMENT

Build a foundation for generations.

Expand financial education around budgeting, saving, credit, homeownership, business ownership, retirement, and estate planning. Working with qualified professionals can help families ask informed questions and plan for long-term stability.

A first step: Offer a financial education series with qualified local professionals.

09 / POLITICAL ACTION

Strengthen civic participation.

Support civic education, voter registration information, public issue forums, and dialogue with decision-makers. A coordinated council can help residents understand public processes, express their priorities, and hold institutions accountable.

A first step: Create an open civic forum centered on community-defined concerns.

10 / TECHNOLOGY

Prepare our community to shape the future.

Connect technical professionals, students, and entrepreneurs through digital literacy, coding, cybersecurity awareness, and responsible AI education. Shared access to skills and equipment can help communities participate in and create new opportunities.

A first step: Launch a digital skills workshop and a technology mentorship circle.

The council vision

Build a table.
Commit to the work.

01 / Convene

Listen and set priorities.

Invite representatives from all five brotherhoods alongside residents and community partners. Establish shared principles, balanced representation, and a common understanding of local needs.

02 / Coordinate

Give every effort an owner.

Form working groups around the ten priorities. Choose achievable projects, name responsible leads, share a service calendar, and match volunteer skills with partner needs.

03 / Sustain

Make accountability visible.

Agree on measures of progress, review results with community partners, and share lessons regularly. Develop future leaders so the work continues beyond a single event or term.

ASKIO is presented here as a proposed collaborative initiative. This page does not announce an established governing council or official endorsement by any fraternity, and does not claim to replace existing Pan-Hellenic institutions.

Bring your experience to the table

Shared purpose needs people who show up.

Consider where your experience can serve: mentoring a student, connecting an employer, supporting a local business, or helping organize a community initiative. Begin with a conversation, build trust, and commit to consistent action.
